Acivir DT functions by inhibiting the growth and transmission of the herpes virus, allowing the immune system to manage the infection. The primary component of Acivir DT is Acyclovir, which is part of a category of antiviral drugs known as synthetic nucleoside analogues. This medication is effective for treating chickenpox, shingles (herpes zoster), and cold sores located around the mouth (herpes simplex). Additionally, some individuals may utilize Acivir DT to prevent reoccurrences and manage outbreaks of genital herpes.

Acivir DT should be taken following a doctor's instructions, typically ranging from 2 to 5 times daily for a duration of 5 to 10 days, starting as soon as symptoms appear. To minimize stomach discomfort, it's advisable to swallow the tablets with food and drink plenty of fluids during the treatment period. For proper treatment length and dosage, consult a doctor, as these factors depend on the specific condition and the patient’s response. While Acivir DT is effective for herpes-related illnesses, it does not cure the herpes virus.

Potential side effects of Acivir DT include headaches, tiredness, stomach upset, nausea, vomiting, dizziness or lightheadedness, and drowsiness.

If side effects persist or if you experience more serious effects such as easy bruising or bleeding, seizures, trouble speaking, breathing or swallowing difficulties, jaundice, vision issues, irregular heartbeats, or changes in mood, seek medical attention right away.

In case of an allergic reaction, hurry to the nearest emergency department. Symptoms of such a reaction may include difficulty in breathing or swallowing, tightness in the chest, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.

Acivir DT may not be appropriate for everyone. Always consult with your healthcare provider before using Acivir DT if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, planning to conceive, taking any other medications (both prescription and over-the-counter), using herbal products or supplements, or if you have allergies or other health concerns.

The dosage and prescription are generally tailored to the patient and the specific condition being addressed. Do not alter your dosage without your healthcare provider’s consent. Acivir DT is to be used strictly as directed and prescribed.
